Namuncurá Film Festival for Asian Indigenous Youth

The festival is dedicated to Blessed Ceferino Namuncurá, a Mapuche Indigenous youth from Argentina, who was a student of Don Bosco. He died in Rome on 11th May 1905 and was beatified on 11th November 2007 by Pope Benedict XVI. 

Who can participate

Any young person or group associated with an indigenous community of Asia.

Inspirational Theme: Looking at the Meaning of our Ancestral Territory

Our indigenous territories are important because they preserve our ancestral language, culture and spirituality. At the same time, indigenous peoples are natural guards of the environment because they live in close connection with Mother Earth. Protecting and promoting indigenous peoples, preserving their languages, traditions and spiritualities, mean also the preservation of Mother Nature. 

Key Areas

1. ⁠Indigenous People and their Living Traditions ( this includes customs, cultures, traditional medical practices, hospitality, sharing, community living, living with other communities and faiths- dialogue of life)
2. Environment ( Laudato si, closeness to nature, protection and care for the habitat, preservation on water resources, forests, mangroves etc)
3. Sense of the Divine, relationship with God/gods, recognition of the Supernatural,  sacredness and values of life, relationality and harmony between God-humans and environment.

• English subtitles must be included.
• Care for copyrighted material should be included such as music, images and other material. 
• Horizontal format.
• Valid extension of the video: .mp4.
• Resolution more than 1080p.

Criteria for evaluation and selection

• Originality.
• Technical and artistic aspects: Scenery, lights, sound, acting and script.
• Indigenous background: How are you portraying your own indigenous traditions and identity?
• Development of the inspirational theme.
• Usage of indigenous language.
